| Fantastic! A must-have for any U2 fan. | |
|  | Like many other U2 fans I've been waiting a long time for this DVD to be released. I've had copies of the original release recorded on Beta, Video 8 and I just bought an unopened VHS copy this year.
The DVD blows all that away. With the audio remastered to 5.1 and the video cleaned up, this is a whole new way to see the concert that propelled U2 to international fame.
If you are not as familiar with the early U2 material as their more recent work, spend the $17 and be ready for a real treat. Keep in mind that they were in their early 20's at the time.
It's been just over 25 years since the concert at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado on June 5, 1983. Try a Google search for "U2 Live at Red Rocks 25 Years" to find out more information on the concert including little known facts and memories of those who were there.

| | | To start, I have not seen this DVD (as it is not yet released). I will however purchase it the minute it is available. I already own the DVD's U2 Vertigo Live from Chicago, U2 Go Home Live from Slane Castle Ireland, Elevation 2001 U2 Live from Boston. As well I have U2 Popmart Live from Mexico City and U2 Zoo TV Live from Sydney on VHS (need to get the DVD's for these as well).
However, I have been anticipating this release on DVD for years. The only copy I had was a VHS copy of a television broadcast from many moons ago. The atmosphere of this concert, which took place in Red Rocks in Denver, Colorado was electric despite the dismal weather. This was a time in their career that, like REM, I still thought I might get to see them perform at my university campus (Memorial University, Newfoundland). How wrong I was when within a year or two they exploded as major rock icons.
This video was the clincher for me as to who would be the most influential band of my life. The sound is RAW and the video is not the greatest in quality (though I am interested in seeing the DVD version). But it is not about those things but rather the essence of the band that unlike the multitude of other offerings on DVD is so pure and true. I always thought that Bono was full of himself based on this video but the man was a great singer. The Edge played the guitar not necessarily with great skill but with an EDGE. And if that wasn't enough he sang their most underrated song, "Seconds", to perfection (IMHO). Adam Clayton looked like he flew out of a Flock of Seagulls with his bleach blond hair. Larry Mullen Jr. looked more like a little boy than he does today (and that is saying something).
I hope the DVD transfer lives up to my expectations but I'm sure I'll love the performance as I did the first time I saw it 25 years ago. (Crap!! Was it really that long ago.) Bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. I thank U2 as well for introducing me to Clannad (that haunting opening song played before the concert begins is beautiful)

| | This show dates from 1983, and was filmed at Red Rocks in the USA - a natural amphitheatre that provided a memorable backdrop for this, U2's first concert film. The best feature of the performance is the very strong connection U2 evidently makes with its audience. You can feel the energy and intensity in the band's playing, and the strident tone of their War album tracks like New Year's Day and Sunday Bloody Sunday is complemented by effective older tracks like I Will Follow, 11 O'Clock Tick Tock and The Electric Co. This music really did lift U2 to the top of the rock music world , and deservedly so. No one else in 1983 was making such strong guitar-based rock music, and U2 here were still young, charismatic, improving and developing an expanding fanbase. Highly Recommended.

| | Are you someone who would like to see some of U2's earlier concert work? Well here it is. You get moment after moment of Rock and Roll the way it was meant to be played... Live and Loud. This one was filmed at the famed Red Rocks, a sort of outdoor Arena.
What I admire most about this U2 concert, is their dedication to excellence. While fans wear jackets and coats, U2 performs in the freezing cold. Steam is clearly seen coming off their sweating bodies and from Bono's lips as he sings song after song.
Inspiring music, moving music with a beautiful Heavenly sound, and good hard hitting Rock-n-Roll, is the best way to describe what is on this video. Please note that this concert is from 1983. 12 songs are performed, including the mega hits Sunday Bloody Sunday(of which the clip was used on MTV back in the 80's), New Year's Day, and Gloria.
If you like unflinching Rock And Roll at its best, you can't do without this video. I own it, and it was WELL worth what I paid for it. Any music that brings a glorious tear to my eyes is worth what I pay for it.
