| Editorial Reviews: | | | | | For years, as playlists and multidisc players put Led Zeppelin tracks into a mix, there was a perpetual need to adjust the volume when Zep came on. Their tunes languished in the haze of substandard remastering--until now, at least for the 24 tracks on Mothership and the final fullness of the new Song Remains the Same reissue. For its part, Mothership's crisper, warmer audio owes its heft to the troika of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, who helped oversee the mastering, bringing out untold shades even in the throes of "Heartbreaker" and the sinews of "No Quarter." It's an impressive sonic leap. Where tinny high-ends and muffled lows used to co-exist, fatter and louder depths prevail. It's ever more astonishing that Zep got on with just four blokes. You can quibble with the 24 tracks here (where's "The Ocean"?), but the band picked each track here, from the stone-cold locks ("Communication Breakdown" and "Stairway to Heaven," no, duh) to the robust throb of "When the Levee Breaks." As for "The Ocean," you can find that in fantastically full form, along with five other gems on the newly remastered Song Remains the Same, which shows up for 2007's holiday season on DVD, too. Only rarely have four lads from England made so memorable an auditory and visual blast. --Andrew Bartlett | |

| Classic Zepplin!! All their best are here on this collection | |
| | Led Zepplin are generally considered to be one of the pioneers of heavy metal and for years, I avoided listening to the group. Needless to say, my taste in music is open to change. Perhaps I'm looking for the origins of heavy metasl and to see exactly which band can be credited with the creation of heavy metal. There's no denying that a Black Sabbath riff is unmistakable. Led Zepplin have influenced a number of bands over the years and Led Zepplin could be considered the pioneer of the power ballad with Stairway to Heaven and the power ballad evolved with the release of Home Sweet Home. Puff Daddy sampled Kashmir for the song, Come With Me from the movie Godzilla. Whole Lotta Love, Over the hills and the song remains the same are some of the best songs on this collection.
Mothership includes two discs of their greatest hits and a dvd of their music videos. Mothership delivers.

| | Led Zeppelin; the idea for the band's name is often attributed to The Who's bassist, John Entwistle, as he predicted public reaction to a band that would include him and a few other well-known musicians of the day with Jimmy Page. Flash forward 40 years and this behemoth of musical history on disc lands even heavier. The numbers are staggering; it's been over 25 years since the band broke up yet they have sold over 200 million albums. The 2 CDs in this set provide chronological snapshots of the band from "Good Times Bad Times" right up to, no pun intended, cuts from the band's swan song albums "Presence" and "In Through The Out Door" featuring Page/Plant/Bonham and Jones at their peak on "Nobody's Fault But Mine", the intoxicating "In The Evening" and the prophetic "All Of My Love". It was if Providence had decided that their final moments together in the studio would be possibly their greatest and most unique of all. As mentioned above, disc 1 starts with "Good Times Bad Times"and includes "Whole Lotta Love", "Stairway To Heaven", "Rock And Roll", "Communication Breakdown", "When The Levee Breaks" and seven more classic Zeppelin numbers. Disc 2 begins with "The Song Remains The Same" and includes the three "Presence/Out Door" tracks mentioned above as well as "Trampled Under Foot", "Kashmir", "D'Yer Maker" and four more classics from Zeppelin's repertoire. The biggest perk for fans is the DVD that's included in this deluxe edition. Clocking in at close to two hours the concert footage is magical, allowing us to see twenty songs in living colour, including "Stairway To Heaven", "Whole Lotta Love" and "Nobody's Fault But Mine". For the most part the jury's still out on the movie "The Song Remains The Same" so it's nice to be able to see so much of the band, sans over-indulgent fantasy sequences that practically drowned "The Song Remains The Same". The concert footage was taken from the "Led Zeppelin DVD" that was released in 2003 featuring performances from four different concerts ranging from 1970 to 1979 and the audio and video quality is amazing. Even the "electric-retro" packaging of this collection is pretty cool, harkening back to the days of vinyl when an album cover could be a work of art. For Led Zeppelin fans, there have been more extensive compilation sets released in the past but this deluxe CD/DVD set is a great chronological reminder of why this band was so great and the legacy they have left behind. On a scale of 1 to 10, this is a 10+.

| | Led Zeppelin, that name alone is pure rock`n`roll and on that subject it doesn`t get much better than them.In the late 60s and the 70s Led Zeppelin set a standart for rock music and helped define it.Sure they didn`t invent it but they contributed largely to its succes and they are still remembered today. They have accomplished many things and they have been inducted in the Rock`Roll Hall Of Fame and its four members:Robert Plant(Vocals),Jimmi Page(Guitarist),John Paul Jones(Bassist)and John Bonham(Drummer)were exceptionnal muscians that all had the musical gift.Yet with all the great albums, songs and all that they`ve done its hard to really make a compilation that is true to Zeppelin. There was the "Early-Latter Days "ones but even those don`t represent Zeppelin best. Now in late 2007,this "Mothership "compilation is released how is it?
Mothership is a double discs set compilation covering the band`s whole career in this unique package. Its actually quite similar to the Early and Latter Days compilations,as they took 20 of those 23 tracks and added four other tracks wich are : "Ramble On",Heartbreaker","Over the Hills and Far Away" and "D'Yer Mak'er",good additons but simply not enough if you already own those. If you have the albums already i would suggest the edition of "Mothership" with the DVD instead wich is basicly a sample of the "Led Zeppelin" DVD.If you already own both the albums and the DVD then its unsessary.Yet if you are amongst the peoples who have yet to hear Led Zeppelin this is fine and its at a decent price and it covers their whole career wich is nice but you might consider paying the extra bucks to get the edition that comes with the DVD.This specific edition has the DVD and it includes performances from the 1970 Royal Albert Hall show, the 1973 Madison Square Garden show,1975 Earl's Court show,1979 Knebworth show.
What IS nice about this compilation,is that the songs have been digitally remastered so that you get the best sound possible out of those songs. They really do sound better if you compare it to the actual album tought its better to have the whole album than a few songs. What is sad is that many will nevr hear the original albbums so they won`t get to see how much better it is now.The 27 songs list is a solid choice of songs but all they did is really add four to the Early And Latter Days compilations and take all the tracks from these compilations. It includes classics such as "Whole Lotta Love" and the epic "Stairway To Heaven",that are sure to please any real rock fans.So the final word is that "Mothership" is more than it appears to be as it gives a best sound to these classics, not much more but no less.
