Thin Lizzy: Live and Dangerous
2 out of 5 stars.
I waited patiently for this DVD to arrive at my door, via Canada Post. Amazon had been kind enough to ship the rest of my order first, and then it arrived...Phil Lynott and the boys of Thin Lizzy live from England. The packaging and content are cute enough with the build up to the concert footage that now is some 30+ years old with the roadies unloading oodles of lighting cans and sound equipment rolling down makeshift ramps from a giant lorry. I had really been excited to order this concert.
Let me say this, from the beginning to end....the video portion is grainy and dated both in resolution and colour etc. That being said, the sound track is HORRIBLE! I really was dissapointed and felt utterly ripped off. I wish they would have left well enough alone and let this rest in the vaults of dead rockstars, rather than bill it as "one of the most exciting concerts of all time" "Carefully, remastered and reworked...this is what live concert footage is all about."????? Don't waist your money on this one, unless you are unhopelessly devoted to Thin Lizzy, it's embarassing to say the least!

great album-poor mix
3 out of 5 stars.
I had this album originally on vinyl - it was and still is a great live recording - imagine my disappointment getting the CD - what happened to the mix? - no volume whatsoever.
This is supposed to be a rock album, Live and Dangerous should be played loud!!-some of the guitar parts you can hardly hear (hence the 3 star rating).
Phil Lynott was thanking whoever invented electricity in the original liner notes - what a shame it wasn't used to full effect in this dull sounding CD - Phil would be turning in his grave -Live and Quiet!!.

OUTSTANDING
5 out of 5 stars.
If you enjoy your rock with great lyrics and memorable tunes then look no further. I saw Lizzy 4 or 5 times at the peak of their powers (Hammersmith Odeon was like a spiritual home) and this album certainly does them justice. Possibly one of the best live rock & roll albums EVER

One of the best live albums made period!
5 out of 5 stars.
I start to get emotional just listening to this CD. Why? Well because I saw Lizzy twice in the UK in the 70's as a student and they sounded as good as this live. They worked hard on stage. Lynott, front and centre, sweating prodigously and putting feeling into every word while playing the bass. Listening to this CD it becomes apparent why he was loved so much by his fans. He tried to give the fans "value for the money". His personality and sense of fun come out almost immediately. What is also apparent is that as a group they were very tight. The two lead guitars sound incredible and play in unison or off one another. Magical! In addition, Lynotts' songs are wonderfully written with pathos and when required just the right amount of sex appeal. This combination is not often seen in R&R. Believe me if you want to know what Thin Lizzy were like live, listen to this CD! I used to see Phil and Caroline shopping on the Kings Road in Chelsea occasionally when I was a grad student. My great regret is not crossing the road to shake his hand and say thank you. It saddens me to think that he is no longer with us. If you want to know about him get the bio DVD, it is also very good. Enjoy!

Stylish live album
4 out of 5 stars.
The sound is a tiny bit muffled, but the performances are excellent (courtesy of many an overdub).
On "Live And Dangerous", Thin Lizzy perform songs from 1974-77, plus a few older selections, and they frequently outdo the studio versions...just listen to the magnificent, lyrical guitar solos on the slow, gripping ballad "Still In Love With You", and the superb renditions of "Southbound" and the tough rockers "Don't Believe A Word" and "The Boys Are Back In Town".

Thin Lizzy perform with fiery energy all through the album, switching effortlessly between hard rock, slow blues and tender balladry, and "Live And Dangerous" is a must-have for fans of Thin Lizzy. Not everything is great, but there's is more than enough here to make "Live And Dangerous" worth your while.
