Editorial Reviews:
It begins with a twittering of birdsong lifted from "Across the Universe." And once the triple-tracked a capella harmonies of "Because" enter, followed by snatches from "A Hard Day's Night" and "The End," leading into a fired-up "Get Back," it becomes obvious that this is far more than just another Beatles compilation. This is Love, conceived by the Fabs' former producer George Martin and son Giles as a stageshow soundtrack to Cirque de Soleil's Las Vegas spectacular of the same name, but appears to have taken on a life of its own. Whereas the Beatles' last release, 1, delivered the (over?) familiar hits in a nice, simple package, Love is a mélange of the familiar and obscure, all literally mixed together in one 78-minute audio collage which succeeds in reminding the listener just why the Beatles truly are, as Lennon put it, "toppermost of the poppermost." There's no new Beatles material per se, but the songs are all approached differently--some are cut together in a flawlessly mixed medley (check out "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!/I Want You/Helter Skelter"), some reassemble different backing tracks and vocal performances to create new spins on old classics; but all the songs are revitalized considerably. Even in its weakest moments (which probably work better in the context of the show itself), Love is still a formidable prospect, and one has to admire Martin's willingness to go out on a limb with such a project. While purists may complain that the cut 'n' paste nature of the project is simply tampering with perfection, at the very least it'll make them reach for the originals and enjoy them all over again. For newcomers and everyone else, it makes a fine listen, both in its sonic clarity (the actual tracks are the best they've sounded on CD) and audacious nature. --Thom Allott

For The Love Of The Beatles!
5 out of 5 stars.
If someone were to tell you that a new Beatles album was out and it was made partially for Cirque Du Soleil, you'd probably remember the 1978 Peter Frampton/Bee Gees travesty and scream in horror! No worries here. George Martin himself (and son) have taken over 30 Beatles songs (and an uncountable amount of true Beatles special effects) and made a masterpiece. From the quiet, bird-chirping beginning of "Because" to the anthemic "All You Need Is Love", one is treated to a musical masterpiece. No song is presented in its entirety nor is any song given short shrift. Using original Beatles soundtracks and effects, each song is seamlessly sequenced into the next giving an almost psychedelic experience. In fact, some of the special sound effects will make you feel as if you'd taken more than an aspirin. The experience truly is one that anyone, even the most fanatical of Beatles fans, will appreciate. That's just the regular CD! If you play the DTS 5.1 DVD on a good system, your mind will be blown! This is one of those musical experiences that you just cannot believe was made so well, so exquisitely, so amazingly. It is the Beatles.

This Deluxe edition isn't very deluxe

I love The Beatles. I knew this would be great and it was. My problem is with the "Deluxe Edition DVD". It is just an "Audio DVD". As in no pictures, no documentaries, nothing. Its just a CD that plays in your DVD player. CDs do that in most DVD players anyway. Don't spend the extra money. IT IS NOT REMOTELY WORTH IT.

Defiantly A Beautiful experience...

I didn't know what to expect when I bought the Beatles Love, but it sure is a treat after listening to it! It's so well done! The song's tie in perfectly, and you feel like your right there in the room with the Beatles! Some great re-mixes by George Martin, but there not your ordinary re-mixes, what he did was combine Beatles song's and kind of mould them into each other. Gotta listen yourself to understand. Trust me though, it's a new experience, especially in 5.1 surround sound.

My favorite moments are here :

7) "Drive My Car/The Word/What your doing" - This really worked well and the melody's really sound great together. Very well done!

13) "Strawberry Fields Forever" - Very different from the original. It start's off with an acoustic guitar, and the rest of the way through is an eerie but en-lighting experience. It's less phycedelcic then the original, but just as powerful. Very neat and new.

17) "Lady Madonna" - I had never heard this one before hearing it on Love, so I can't tell you if there are any noticeable difference's, but it sound's darn good and the song is awesome as well! Check it out.

20) "Revolution" - The rocky version of "Revolution"! Sound's crystal clear and it's great to hear the boy's just rockin' like this!

22) "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" - I had no clue what song this was at first, until I realized that it was George's classic, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"! It's all done on acoustic guitar with a bit of orchestra near the end. This one is great, and like "Strawberry Fields Forever" a totally new experience!

24) "Hey Jude" - This is an edited version of the original 7:00 minute "Hey Jude", but ya wouldn't know it! George Martin make's it seem so slick! The track is as great as it always was with re-mastered sound, and you'll be singing "Na-Na-Na-Na Na Na" by the end for sure!

25) "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" (Reprise) - My favorite transition from the album has to be from "Hey Jude" to "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)". The orchestra of "Hey Jude" slowly fade's out as the sliding guitar slowly fade's in and will get ya jumping!

26) "All You Need Is Love" - How do you not end the album with "All You Need Is Love"? The album is titled Love isn't it! Anyway's, not much different from the original, but John's vocal's are as raw and powerfull as ever here.

It's the Beatles. It's John, Paul, George and Ringo. Just go get it already!

Well done Mr. Martin!

CHEERS!

Why must they do this?

Some music just should not be messed with, and Beatles music is one of them. The only bearable parts are those songs which have very little editing or splicing(actually a fair bit for a "remix" cd). Some songs are just completely butchered, such as within you without you. Perhaps some music without meaning and/or purpose such as pop rap ect can constantly be remixed, but most Beatles songs are crafted works of art, not to be cut up or spliced together. A warning to all true Beatle fans who appreciate meaning and context behind music, this CD will merely aggravate and annoy you as classic songs are defiled.

The best band in the world is even better!

I received the double disc for Christmas. As soon as I popped Disc 1 into my cd player, I was totally hooked! Hearing classic Beatles tunes seamed together in such a new and interesting way was thrilling. Had this project been in the hands of anyone other than George Martin and/or The Beatles themselves, I would have been very skeptical of the result. It's fantastic!

I held one star back because I don't own the equipment needed to take full advantage of Disc 2. I was disappointed that there wasn't any video on the disc - i.e. interviews, a brief documentary on the making of LOVE, even some fun and funky graphics to go along with songs. Oh, well. I still love the project and can't wait to see a live performance of LOVE.
