| Fergie delivers with the Dutchess!! | |
| | Fergie has encountered huge success with this album. London Bridges soared to #1 on the Hot 100 Singles chart. Glamorous produced her second #1 single and she's currently #1 on the Pop 100 on the Billboard charts with song, Big Girls Don't Cry. This album doesn't disappoint and the ballad, Big Girls Don't Cry is one of the best ballads of 2007. Fergie doesn't disappoint with this album.
| | She has finally sprouted out from the black eye pea | |
| | I enjoy some of the songs in this album. Some people believe that she's better on hooks than just being a solo Artist which is understandable but she does show some vocal range in some of her tracks. Although Fergie buddy will.i.am co-produced 8 of the album's 13 tracks, she co-wrote and co-produced much of the disc, ensuring that she's not just posing in front of a mic is averagely enjoyable.
Each song has its own personal flavor, Fergie successfully pushes her creative envelope starting from a throwback hip-hop "Fergalicious," done to the tune of J.J. Fad's ("Supersonic") which is bitter-sweet, throwback soul "Here I Come," done to the tune of the Temptations' ("Get Ready") is very catchy, and my personal favorite is the "Mary Jane Shoes" because it has a wild mixture of punk and reggae. "Clumsy" has another reggae vibe that has some cute lyrics. The classy ballad "Finally" produced by John Legend is also nice, among several other passable switch-ups, along with "London Bridge" - is also terrific. "Big Girls Don't Cry," does sounds like a 2006 version of Wild Orchid, with a Taylor Dayne act which is not bad either. "Glamorous", featured Ludacris is good also but I felt as though his appearance could have been left out.
Other than "The Dutchess" it's a good debut album. Fergie has created an impressive base for whatever seed she has planted that might probably be a fruitful solo career. This album is highly recommended especially to the fans of black-eyed peas and for those who enjoys dance floor numbers, ode to 80's hip hop, and infectious beat.
| | Her music makes no sense. | |
| | Fergalicious and London Bridge are both horrible songs. This album just proves that people are willing to buy anything if there's a pretty face or famous person on the cover.
On a different note, I feel bad for the Black Eyed Peas. The group itself had the talent long before Fergie came along, unfortunately it took some TnA to sell albums. Fergie as hot as she is just looks like a talentless wannabe of Gwen Stefani.
| | | I have always had mixed feelings on Fergie -- wait, nevermind, [...] Seeing as how I thought the Black Eyed Peas weren't very original to start with, you can only imagine my malice towards Fergie for bringing them even lower. Now keep in mind this review is completely unbiased. What? Don't believe me? It's true. I have opened my mind and have listened to this album as if it was from any of the typical bubble-gum turned hip-hop divas.
The Dutchess starts off with a disappointing throwback to J.J. Fad's "Supersonic", which in all honesty shouldn't have been created in the first place. The song, Fergalicious, left me quite stunned when I first heard it; I couldn't believe this of all songs would be used as a first track on an album. A weak start even for a talentless pants-wetter. The album doesn't even get better from here. Surprise, surprise! [...], and London Bridge is among the most blatant rip-offs of them all. The a few songs (Glamorous, for example) are slightly - and I mean slightly - redeeming for the heap of crap otherwise known as the rest of the album, as they are the only song that I found to be bearable and even catchy without using cheap tactics of repeatedly yelling out the same short chorus over and over or spelling out words -- sorry, the word glamorous is spelled out for us too. Nevertheless some songs are stronger than others, but are still surprisingly weak. This new era of annoying women with bad fashion sense who don't rap or sing, but find an odd and annoying substitute for the two where they drill an annoying hook (if it can even be referred to as that) into your head is really beginning to take over the world. [...] Still, Gwen Stefani she ain't, [...]
| | fergie ferg.... we get it | |
| | Is it bad when you hear songs sung by fergie, and you think it is the same song with the words mixed around? We get it Fergie you're hot, you are in a band, all the guys want you, you don't want them, we get it. Every song sounds the same, and every video looks the same. This is why people shouldn't do solo albums. Thanks
