| Editorial Reviews: | | | | | Thanks to a fortuitous intersection of talent and fate, 22-year-old Josh Groban hasn't finished his senior year in performing arts school but has already released his sophomore effort on a major major label. Fans of the young vocal phenom's debut will find much to enthrall them here, even if it nudges the singer closer to the center of producer/mentor David Foster's MOR pop sensibilities. Eschewing much of its predecessors more overt classic-lite pretensions and pop-rock covers for a slate of dramatic, Eurocentric ballads that serve as a showcase for the singer's inviting baritone, Groban shrewdly positions himself as the American alternative to the Bocelli-Watson crossover axis. "Caruso" may find the singer falling short of its operatic inspiration, but "Oceano" and "My Confession" quickly showcase the singer's true dramatic range (which seems to all but yearn for a bona fide Broadway musical challenge), while a vocal take of Bacalov's graceful "Il Postino" theme uses classical virtuoso Joshua Bell's violin flourishes to good effect. To his credit, Groban displays some promising efforts at songwriting collaboration on the bittersweet "Per Te" and "Remember When It Rains," while the ambient/ethnic soundscape of Deep Forest's "Never Let Go" offers a teasing alternative to the record's otherwise melodramatic production formula. Groban has found commercial triumph via Foster's mentoring, but there remains a nagging sense here that he hasn't truly pushed himself as an artist--yet. --Jerry McCulley | |

| | I am not the typical Josh Groban fan. I listen to R&B or mainstream pop (not usually opera, if you know what I mean), but I love this CD. I even love the songs that I have no clue what he is saying. Wow. The songs are so beautiful. It almost makes me want to be Italian. :) I'd be Per Te-ing all over the place, if you know what I mean. HAHA just kidding. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for something good to listen to. Especially Remember When It Rained.
| | Great Voice, Disappointing Song Selection | |
| | Although I absolutely love Josh Groban's voice, I have to say that most of the songs on this CD are extremely boring, and sound very much the same. It is really too bad, because given the right songs, Josh can really amaze (eg. have you heard him sing O Holy Night - just astounding !).
If you are just going to buy one Josh Groban CD, buy the first one.
| | | first of all... all the people that rated this CD 1 star... ARE YOU MENTALLY WELL???!!! Josh Groban is 1 in a million... and you obviously haven't heard opera before. Anyway Josh Groban is an amazing singer and i would recommend this CD to anyone.
| | | I first heard Josh Groban on his album JOSH GROBAN, and decided, hey, I should check this other one out. CLOSER is incredible! His voice is incredible. Josh Groban can SING. Holayyy. And it isn't even just the strength of his voice; it's his range, and his tone. He's probably the best tenor of recent years.
| | | OK, I just want to say that as a singer, Josh Groban is definitely someone to look up. I love all of his songs and his voice. I can listen to him all day long!
