Short But Sweet Christmas Album
4 out of 5 stars.
This is kind of an unusual release for a Johnny Cash collection, 12 songs taken from three of his Christmas albums(recorded between 1963 to 1980, with one song being a previously unreleased version). As far as the music goes it's well done, with pretty standard versions of the classics, and a few personally-written Christmas songs. The spoken word songs are more interesting; his live version of Christmas As I Know It is a gem. Try to listen to it and not get a lump in your throat. It's a shame that there was only 12 songs though, at less than 36 minutes there could have been much more included, but on the other hand it's over before it could get boring. The songs are remastered nicely and for the price it's not a bad deal. Also check out that cover photo, not too often you see the Man in Black dressed in white. A nice addition to your Christmas collection.

+1/2. Happy holidays from the man in black...!
3 out of 5 stars.
A collection of a dozen Cash Christmas oldies, gathered from over a couple of decades. The stuff off his 1980 "Classic Christmas" album is every bit as ludicrous and appalling as folks have said: the shrill vocal chorus and cluttered "classical" arrangements are a real mismatch for Johnny's voice, and tend to drown him out. But some of the older material (which dates back to the early '60s) is pretty sweet and shows Cash at his most charismatic and committed. The disc ends with a previously unreleased live recitation tune, "Christmas As I Knew It," which is pretty nice, despite the low fidelity (and even some telephones ringing in the background during one verse!) A nice holiday offering, though the '80s stuff will probably get on your nerves.
