| Editorial Reviews: | | | | | When Ridley Scott's cut of Blade Runner was finally released in 1993, one had to wonder why the studio hadn't done it right the first time--11 years earlier. This version is so much better, mostly because of what's been eliminated (the ludicrous and redundant voice-over narration and the phony happy ending) rather than what's been added (a bit more character development and a brief unicorn dream). Star Harrison Ford originally recorded the narration under duress at the insistence of Warner Bros. executives who thought the story needed further "explanation"; he later confessed that he thought if he did it badly they wouldn't use it. (Moral: Never overestimate the taste of movie executives.) The movie's spectacular futuristic vision of Los Angeles--a perpetually dark and rainy metropolis that's the nightmare antithesis of "Sunny Southern California"--is still its most seductive feature, an otherworldly atmosphere in which you can immerse yourself. The movie's shadowy visual style, along with its classic private-detective/murder-mystery plot line (with Ford on the trail of a murderous android, or "replicant"), makes Blade Runner one of the few science fiction pictures to legitimately claim a place in the film noir tradition. And, as in the best noir, the sleuth discovers a whole lot more (about himself and the people he encounters) than he anticipates.... With Sean Young, Edward James Olmos, Daryl Hannah, Rutger Hauer, and M. Emmet Walsh. --Jim Emerson | |

| One of the best sci-fi ever | |
| | Blade runner is one of the best sci-fi movie. As said befor by many, the director's cut is a little better than the original, I have personally seen the three version, the original theatrical version, wich is very soft has been released only on VHS, the international version (with the naration of Harrison Ford) is a little harder with more goulish sequece (this version has been release on Laserdisc) and finaly the director's cut wich give more insight of the caracter of Deckar and the possibility that he may be a replicant himself without knowing it as Rachel. But hey wait good news who loved that movie. Warner will release december 18th 2007 a 5 discs box set and gess what all three version will be available and a new final cut of the movie will be also availaible plus some extra of course here's the link to get more informations at amazon.com [...]
| | not sure if i saw the original version or director's cut(disappointing,either way)2.5/5 | |
| | i don't think i have see nthe director's cut of this movie.whatever version it was,i know i wasn't really impressed.the only thing i did like was the visual style.it was very nice to look at.other than that though,i can't say much stood out.i found the movie much too sublime for this type of movie.there's some action for sure, but it's all passive.that's not always a bad thing,if you have some compelling dialogue, which i didn't feel this one had.i also thought the screenplay could have been better.when you add this all together, you get a movie that moves too slow and doesn't really fully ecxplain itself.i won't say it's a bad movie, just disappointing, considering how people rave about it.my advice is to watch the original version and the director's cut and draw your own conclusions.by the way, apparently Ridley Scott is working on the definitive version(whatever that means) of the film which will be released sometime in 2008 in 2,4 and five disc incarnations.anyway for me,this edition of"Blade Runner" is a disappointing 2.5/5
| | | Ridley Scott is fore sure one of the best director in the movie business. Blade runner is one of his classics. One of the best Si-fi movie ever made along with 2001, Soylent green, The Matrice...etc etc.
| | Brilliant futuristic film | |
| | This movie was voted the best sci-fi of all time recently in the UK. The evidence is in the details...the story is gripping, the cinematography superb, and the small details extraordinary, like when the blade runner takes a sip of vodka from the shot glass, and the trace of blood runs into the glass. Full of imagery...the nail through the hand, the dove finally released...the final act of altruism from the nexus...this is a movie that works on many levels. Casting Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer and the beautiful and underrated Sean Young was a stoke of inspiration. Add to this the soundtrack by Vangelis and you have a beauty! The director's cut leaves it up to the viewer to connect the dots. The theatre version dubbed a commentary to explain the action. Absolutely my favourit sci-fi movie in the age where many others have been superceded by the actual present day date!
| | | It seems like half the people love the voiceovers, and half the people can't stand them. The solution is a multidisk-disk release. According to the Bladerunner site on wikipedia, a four-disk release is due out in 2007! It will have US Theatrical, European Theatrical, 1992 Director's Cut, and 2007 Director's Cut. That's what I'm waiting for. My VHS copy is getting pretty scratchy and VHS looks terrible on the HDTV anyway.
